Original Stormy Kromer

"Stormy" is a cool and masculine nickname, although it was probably not meant as a compliment. George "Stormy" Kromer, born in 1876 in Kaukauna - Wisconsin, had this particular nickname which referred to his temper. He was a semi-pro baseball player and railroad engineer. He started as an engineer because his father in law did not allow him to marry his daughter before he had a real job.

On the cold trips over the plains, being an engineer, he had to stick his head out the window to see where he was heading. You can imagine he lost his hats over and over. That is the reason why in 1903 he asked his wife Ida to modify a baseball cap by sewing earflaps. This resulted in the first "railroader cap" and something that he could keep on under windy conditions.

In no-time at all Stormy's colleagues wanted a Stormy Kromer cap, and it wasn't long before Ida could not keep up with the demand. They hired a few employees and the company was born. All products are still made in the USA and come with a Lifetime Guarantee. More interesting info on Kromer can be found on the Kaukauna Area History Blog.

In our store we carry the Original Stormy Kromer Cap in 3 sizes and 4 different colours: Black, Charcoal, Red plaid and the Green plaid. Come check them out and prepare for Stormy weather!
