Vintage Hunting Pics

Take a look at this nice gallery full of old hunting pictures. Outdoorlife already posted them a while back, but we discovered these only recently. Some of them are more than 100 years old. There is not much hunting to do in Amsterdam, nevertheless the hunting gear, the old cars and mustaches appeal to me greatly.

Take a look and enjoy.

Vintage 1882 Duluth pack

This amazing vintage Duluth Pack we found on Ebay is made by the founder of Duluth pack, mister Poirier himself and considered the holy grail of backpacks and camping equipment. So the price of $50.000 is pretty reasonable right?

Well you can always buy a new one at our shop and break it in your self...

Frost Birgens SS11

Scandinavian fashion is usually something I can appreciate. Frost Birgens from Copenhagen just released their lookbook and I like it. Not to mention that you are really cool if this is what you can tell about your designer: "..designing clothes for friends and loyal customers who found their way through a back yard up a fire escape, in to his workshop." Love it.

The collection looks functional and somewhat sober, yet alos has a surprisingly playful element to it.

I picked out some of the styles I like. Cool detail is the use of patterns both inside and out, adding an extra dimension to the shirts. Also worth a mention is the jacket with leather pockets attached askew, short 3/4 sleeves and white buttons. non-fitted shorts with big side pockets and visible buttons.

Freeman Transport

At the second day of official business we had the pleasure of meeting the mother of Nathaniel Freeman, the co-owner of Freeman Transport. This Montana-based company builds hand made bicycles. She was so excited about our new store that she started talking about her son's company and could visualize one of here son's creations hanging from the ceiling in our shop already.

We have a great love for bikes - and traveling. The guys from Freeman transport are no different. Their bikes are made using Columbus steel tubing and s-an-s coupling, they can be disassembled and packed into a waxed canvas or leather carrying case so you can take them with you on your travels. The cases are made so that they can be checked into airplanes without oversized baggage fee!

The bicycle that we love the most? The one that's inspired on a Colt .45: the Gravel Racer. Who says you can't take a gun with you in an airplane…

Check out their website at Freemantransport.com

Opening Report

Damn, it was fun last Thursday. As you might have noticed we are officially open since the 22nd of July. The hard work paid off. The collaborative work between all people involved resulted in something really special. I am truly proud to be a part of the team. The collection is impressive and the interior contains a very nice mixture between the Americana and the "Amsterdamned". The response so far has been overwhelming.

Official interior shots will be published soon. For now I just wanted to give you a report on the opening event and a little preview on the interior for those who did not have the opportunity to visit us yet. A lot of people showed up for the opening and we had a great time. Even our colleagues from Red Wing Shoes Berlin attended our event. Check out all pictures on our Facebook page here.

Thank you all for the support. We appreciate it.

Journal de Nîmes Nº5

The new Journal de Nîmes Nº5 -The British issue- is officially launched today. Tenue de Nîmes came across so many great things from the United Kingdom recently that we could have easily filled 100 pages. In this fifth release we proudly present an interview with Nigel Cabourn at his Newcastle residence, we discuss the Grenson factory visit and also feature a very personal denim interview with Miles Johnson, head designer of the inspiring Levi's XX department. Add to that a London shopping map, plenty of British Treasures, a brief history of the Duffle Coat as well as a tip of the cap to the 180th anniversary of the legendary (American) brand Woolrich and you will understand why this issue got a little out of hand. A digital version of the magazine is available after the click.

Red Wing Messenger and Wallet

A few days back Ronnie Fieg posted some great pictures of a messenger bag and a wallet. I just need to show you. Ronnie Fieg was lucky enough to receive the items as a gift from Michiya Suzuki, the head of Red Wing Japan.

The "Oro-Russet Portage" leather was imported to Japan where the bag and wallet were produced. Some blogs give the information that this is a Japan exclusive product, but I am not sure when or where this will be sold. Maybe Amsterdam? Let's hope so.

No Trespassing

It will take a few months before it is my birthday again. One thing I know for sure. Everyone who does not know what to buy as a present (if you feel the need to bring one), ask Joachim! Why? He keeps finding stuff a real vintage lover would sell his mother for. Sorry mom..

His latest find is an old canvas sign. It looks like thin quality fabric with printed text. You can tell by the rusty marks it has been nailed to a wall or fence. Who would not go in if they saw this sign? The text is clearly about things that are not allowed. Handsigned by mr. V.B. Everest?

I am going to create a regular topic for our finds. Interested in joining? Impress us. We will post it if it is cool, workwear related and vintage.

TVA IN COLOR

ACL has posted some really great pictures of workers in their natural habitat. Of course dressed in attire that would suit only the tribe's toughest. The pictures were taken in the 40's by Alfred Palmer during the construction of the Tennessee Valley Authority. Great shots and a good read are available here.

Red Wing at BBB

Red Wing shoes showed their Spring Summer collection 2011 at Bread & Butter in Berlin. The collection was full of new summer orientated styles. Absolute favorites from our side were amongst others: Light suede Oxfords, new Boat shoes and a lovely gray suede Round toe, as shown by Rene below.

Preview on Naked & Famous x Momotaro Jeans

A first glimpse of the alliance between Naked and Famous and Momotaro Jeans shown by Hypebeast made me curious. I have a very good relationship with my Momotaro, so I wanted to see more. This morning I received some pictures from my brother, and it looks very appealing.

A bit hard to tell but the denim looks a 12 or 13 oz. A nice detail is the wide coin pocket. They seem to have made it a bit wider than what I have seen so far from both brands. The leather patch on the back, stitched only on top and bottom, is nice because it features both N&F and Momotaro branding.

Also, the pictures show that this is a nice mix between the distinct details of both brands. The Okoyama patch inside the waistband, the rivets, buttons and pink stitching are referring to the Japanese brand. The patch in the middle of the inside waistline and the red selvedge are N&F details.

Can't wait to see these come out. I will be ready for it.
