The Burning House

Your house is burning down. What are you going to grab in the split-second before you escape to safety? Pictures? Money? Your girlfriend? Are you going to choose practical stuff or your beloved memorabilia? It is a hard question. I know for sure the first thing I´d do is put my boots on and right after I´d throw all my jeans out the window.

My brother sent me the blog "The Burning House". Each post is a picture - with description - of the stuff people would save from their house first. The outcome is a very varied collection treasured possessions. Each person has different items, but a lot of people want to save their cameras. They must assume their partner will save him or herself. Luckily a few people want to save their boots as seen above. This blog is a must follow. Thanks Jonathan for sharing.

1001 rules for my unborn son

Can't even remember where I got this blog from, but for me this is a frequent source of instant amusement. The rules are well-chosen and also apply to yourself. Some are typically American and might be a bit harder to relate to if you are from Europe. The rules are accompanied by interesting quotes and old pictures. There is also print version called "Rules for my unborn son". A must read if you ask me. Follow this blog via 1001 rules for my unborn son.

A small selection of the rules I will share with my unborn son:

468. When entrusted with a secret, keep it.

464. Stay up late to watch old movies.

460. Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.

451. You only get one chance to notice her new haircut.

Reproofing Waxed Cotton

When I bought my Levi's by Filson Trucker Jacket I received a small can of Filson Wax. This was enclosed in the package from the USA to reproof my jacket if necessary.  This is because creases can cause tearing of the waxed fabric after a long period of use. Reproofing makes sure you can use your waxed product forever. If you have never seen a waxed jacket or bag check out Filson, Barbour or the Duluth Packs (from which the last one will soon be available at our store).

Today Archival Clothing has posted a very good guide on how to reproof you own jackets, packs and caps. Just surf to their blog, get the stuff you need and do it yourself.

TVA IN COLOR

ACL has posted some really great pictures of workers in their natural habitat. Of course dressed in attire that would suit only the tribe's toughest. The pictures were taken in the 40's by Alfred Palmer during the construction of the Tennessee Valley Authority. Great shots and a good read are available here.

Vintage Banana Republic

What would you do without pockets? I carry a lot of stuff around so I always make good use of the ones available. Nevertheless it should look appropriate t00. Therefore I am a big fan of functional clothing that looks good at the same time. The styleblog Street Etiquette has posted some nice information and pictures about Banana Republic. The vintage jacket seen above is very classy. It looks a bit like a safari trench-coat because of the waistband (or like an urban survival jacket). Removable sleeves tend to be hit-or-miss, but this is a good example of a hit. Read the details here.
